The team are looking forward to starting work at East Wear Bay on Monday. This year we are targeting an area to the north of the Roman villa.
Did you know that the cliffs here are gradually eroding? When the villa was first excavated in 1923 and 1924 there was around 30m of land between the building and the cliff edge. Now, this distance is just over 2m!
The community-based project aims to preserve the archaeological remains ‘by record’ before they are lost forever to coastal erosion.
