Archaeology and Identity Workshops

Throughout January and February, the CAT Engagement and the CAT Finds teams delivered a series of twelve ‘Archaeology & Identity’ sessions in the Community Studio at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge. These were offered free of charge and were open to FCAT members, students and the public.

We explored three different themes: ‘Brooches in Britannia’, ‘Items of Personal Adornment in the Roman World’ and ‘Objects Related to Roman Religious Beliefs or Practices’. The sessions involved looking closely at small finds from Roman Kent while we considered how these items relate to personal and social identity.

Participants had the chance to handle genuine archaeological objects and ask questions about them. Feedback from the sessions was incredibly positive and we look forward to doing more workshops like this in the future.
