We are deeply saddened to report the death of Professor Paul Bennett MBE, whose vision, passion and unwavering dedication helped shape Canterbury Archaeological Trust throughout his time as Director from 1986 to 2020. His contribution to archaeology in Kent and far beyond was immense, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

It feels especially poignant that Paul was able to join us at our 50th Anniversary Reception just thirteen days ago. It was a great pleasure to see him there, surrounded by colleagues, friends and the organisation he helped build. His presence served as a reminder not only of his remarkable archaeological achievements, but also of the kindness, encouragement and friendship he gave so generously to so many people over the years.

Our thoughts are with Paul's family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
